Is IB best for getting into universities abroad?

The answer to this depends on what you want out of your secondary or high school education. The IB program is one of the most popular and internationally recognized curricula, given that it is offered in many countries including the US and UK.

IB offers challenging courses to its students, and its compulsory core subjects ensure that you are well-rounded and well-prepared for the tough courses you may take in college. The IB curriculum is typically stricter than other curricula, for example the Advanced Placement (AP) or the UK GCE A-Levels.

Do you get college credit for IB courses?

IB exams can be recognized for college credit, but this depends on the courses and of course, the universities. The good news is that you do not need an IB diploma to get credit for individual subjects, because colleges give credit course by course. However, the higher your passing score is for the course, the more likely you are to get credit for college.

If you are interested in finding out whether the courses you take in IB will be accepted as college credit, you will need to check the college’s credit policy on their website. Most universities will have information explaining their IB credit policies.

What IB score do you need to get into good universities?

Of course, as with all other curricula, the higher your score, the better your chance of getting into your desired university. An IB score of 40+ will make you a more competitive student in the academic sense, but 38 is also considered a solid score.

Most universities have specific requirements depending on which major you decide to take. You will need to do a little research into the exact requirements of your desired major.

Note that universities don’t only look for high scorers – remember that they consider your other non-academic accomplishments too. So while getting a high score is very important, don’t lose sight of the other things you will need to achieve in order to be a top, well-rounded student.
